Project “Connecting Families”

The project named “Connecting Families” has been brought to the attention of the Canadian Tamil Congress (CTC) by its members who have family members in the Vanni region.  As it stands, there are more than 10,000 families who need urgent assistance in rebuilding their livelihoods as they recover from the war.  This number is expected to increase as more civilians are released from Internally Displacement Persons (IDPs) camps.  This project identifies ways in which CTC can help address the immediate needs of Tamils in the war-ravaged areas of North East Sri Lanka.

TORONTO – The Canadian Tamil Congress (CTC) is inviting community members and leaders, and members of the media on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. for the launch of its “Connecting Families” project. As we all know, the war had a devastating impact on families living in the traditional Tamil homelands. Tens of thousands have been killed and many more injured. Children have been orphaned, families have lost their breadwinners and countless others have been left without eyes, legs, and arms. Many are now struggling to feed their families or find places to sleep. In response, the “Connecting Families” project will be an avenue for Tamil families in Canada to ‘adopt’ and directly help families or individuals in Sri Lanka devastated by the war.

More detailed information on the project will be provided at the official launch at the Scarborough Civic Centre’s Council Chambers. For more information, contact CTC at 416.240.0078.
