Anbudan Thamil – Tamil with Love

Did you know Tamil is widely considered as one of the oldest languages still spoken by over 80 million people in the world today? Despite this history, it is one of the least researched and academically explored languages in a higher learning institution.
To advance the global understanding of the Tamil language, Tamil Chair Inc. and Canadian Tamil Congress have signed an agreement with the University of Toronto to create a Tamil Chair. As Toronto is home to one of the largest diasporic Tamil populations outside of India, it is a natural decision to house the project at the University of Toronto-Scarborough campus.
To establish the Toronto Tamil Chair, we need your help! By the end of June 2020, we need to raise 3 million dollars for the endowment funds to bring this initiative to life. With this in mind, we created Anbudan Thamil, an interactive fundraising project that anyone can get involved with!

Here’s how it works:

  • Host a dinner party, a get-together, potluck or meet- up at your favourite restaurant.
  • Gather a group of friends, family or acquaintances- the more the merrier!
  • Have a lively discussion about Tamil, what it means to you and the future of this beautiful and rich language
  • Use this opportunity to share all the great content about the Toronto Tamil Chair and how to donate!
  • The goal of each event is to bring people together, spread awareness about the Toronto Tamil Chair and gather donations
  • The goal of each event is to bring people together, spread awareness about the Toronto Tamil Chair and gather donations
  • Here’s the catch- you need to challenge three of your attendees to continue the chain of hosting and spreading the Anbudan Thamilcampaign to their own friends/family groups
  • After each event, three more attendees should be challenged to continue the chain and spread the Anbudan Thamil campaign even more! See if you can have the largest surviving chain!

Guidelines:

  • New people must be invited to each round of events in order to diversify the hosts/attendees and spread more awareness about the Toronto Tamil Chair
  • Each event is expected to raise a minimum of $100. However, people are encouraged to donate generously.
  • Individual donations over $20 are eligible for a charitable tax receipt directly from the University of Toronto
  • All donations must be collected by either by cheque, payable to the “University of Toronto” or directly on the Toronto Tamil chair’s donation webpage, torontotamilchair.ca. No cash donations will be accepted.
  • Hosts must encourage and follow-up with all attendees to continue the chain and meet their donation goals
  • Hosts and donors will be recognized on our website, torontotamilchair.ca. The largest surviving chain will get special recognition!
  • Once the event takes place, each host must send a message with details of the donations to events@canadiantamilcongress.ca

So get out there, meet people and spread the Anbudan Thamil campaign to support the establishment of Tamil Chair.
