Update on COVID-19 Food Relief in the Northern and Eastern Provinces of Sri Lanka

COVID-19 Food Relief Efforts in the Northern and Eastern provinces of Sri Lanka initiated by the Canadian Tamil Congress (CTC) is underway in the Vavuniya District. North and East Economic Development (NEED) Centre as the ground implementing partner organization for the Vavuniya district, coordinated the food distribution to the most vulnerable families. Four volunteers having obtained Police permission to distribute the food relief during curfew hours, distributed food packages to 50 identified families in Neeliyamoddai village which comes under Vengalacheddikulam Divisional Secretariat (DS) Division in the Vavuniya District.

The food package contained the following items Rice 5 kg, Red rice, 1 kg Sugar, 1 kg Chickpeas, 250 grams Soya, 100 grams Tea and 1 Soap bar for a total cost of Sri Lankan Rupees 1075 per food package.

275 food packages will be distributed in total in the district and the balance food packages will be distributed tomorrow Monday and possibly Tuesday.
