CTC thanks all parties for coming together to declare January as Tamil Heritage Month in Canadian parliament.

“That, in the opinion of the House, the government should recognize the contributions that Tamil-Canadians have made to Canadian society, the richness of the Tamil language and culture, and the importance of Tamil heritage for future generations by declaring January, every year, Tamil Heritage Month”. With these words, Mr. Gary Anandasangaree, MP for Scarborough Rouge Park introduced the private members bill in the parliament in May, 2016.
We are very pleased to note that with support of all parties in the Canadian parliament, the motion (M-24) was passed today to declare every January as Tamil Heritage Month. This will provide Canadians from Coast to Coast the opportunity to celebrate our rich Tamil Heritage, language and history.
The Canadian Tamil Congress thanks MP Mr. Gary Anandasangaree, Members of Parliament from all parties who rose in the House of Commons to speak in support of the motion and every Member of Parliament who was present today to support the bill.
With the passage of this bill, our great nation recognizes the contributions Tamil Canadians have made to Canada’s social, economic, political and cultural fabric. Every January will be an opportunity to remember, celebrate and educate future generations about the inspirational role that Tamil Canadians have played and continue to play in communities across Canada. Toronto District School Board, many GTA municipalities including Toronto and the province of Ontario have all declared January as “Tamil Heritage Month”.
Tamils began migrating to Canada as early as the 1950s, which accelerated after the anti-Tamil riots in July 1983.Since that time, Tamil Canadians have overcome tremendous obstacles after their arrival and have made significant contributions to the growth and prosperity of Canada. The passage of this bill once again shows why Canada gets ranked as the most tolerant country in the world.

Avec ces mots, M. Gary Anandasangaree, député de Scarborough-Rouge Park, a présenté sa motion d’initiative parlementaire dans le Parlement en mai 2016.
Nous sommes très heureux de constater que, grâce au soutien de tous les partis au Parlement canadien, la motion (M-24) a été adoptée aujourd’hui déclarant janvier le Mois du patrimoine tamoul. Cela permettra aux tous les Canadiens l’occasion de célébrer le riche patrimoine, la langue et l’histoire tamoul.
Le Congrès tamoul canadien remercie M. Gary Anandasangaree, les membres du Parlement de chaque partie qui ont parlé à la Chambre des communes en faveur de la motion, et tous les membres du Parlement qui était présent aujourd’hui à soutenir la motion.L’adoption de cette motion reconnaît les contributions faisant par les tamoule Canadiens au tissu social, économique, politique et culturelle du Canada. Chaque janvier sera l’occasion de se rappeler, de célébrer et d’éduquer les générations futures du rôle d’inspiration que les tamoules-Canadiens ont joué et continuent de jouer dans les collectivités partout au Canada. Le conseil scolaire du district de Toronto (Toronto District School Board), de nombreuses municipalités de la RGT, incluant Toronto et la province de l’Ontario, ont tous déclaré janvier le «Mois du patrimoine tamoul”.
Les Tamouls ont commencé à émigrer au Canada dès les années 1950, de plus après les émeutes anti-tamoules en juillet 1983. Depuis les 1980s, les tamoul-Canadiens ont surmonté d’énormes obstacles et aient contribué d’une manière significative à la croissance et à la prospérité du Canada. Le passage de cette motion montre encore une fois pourquoi le Canada se classait comme le pays le plus tolérant dans le monde.
