Update on CTC’s COVID-19 Food Relief Effort in the Mullaitivu District, Sri Lanka

Update April 6th

COVID-19 Food Relief Efforts supported by Tamil Canadians for the Mullaitivu District started on Monday April 6th, 2020. This effort is being implemented by the local district organization Olirum Valvu. Fifty (50) of the most vulnerable families consisting of disabled and war widows have been selected for each of the five District Secretariat Divisions in the Mullaitivu district. These food relief recipients have been identified with the help of Grama Sevakas and District Secretaries.

A total 250 families in the Mullaitivu district will receive the food relief packages for a total value of Sri Lankan Rupees 1000. Each food package contains the following items Rice (Red) 5 kg, 1 kg Sugar, 1 kg Lentils, 100 grams Tea and 3 Soap bars.

On Monday April 6th 2020, distribution was completed in three of the five DS divisions in the Mullaitivu district, namely Maritimepattu, Oddusuddan and Puthukudiyiruppu, reaching about 50 families in each division.

Distribution in the remaining two DS divisions in the Mullaitivu district (Thunukkai and Manthai East) will be completed on Wednesday. We will continue to keep you posted on these food relief efforts in the Mullaitivu district and several other districts Northern and Eastern Provinces of Sri Lanka.
