“Made in Mullaitivu” Sales Outlet Inauguration (Murukandy)

The Canadian Tamil Congress (CTC) proudly supported the opening of two new community-focused initiatives in Thirumurukandy, Mullaitivu District, on March 14, 2026. With financial support from CTC and implementation by the North East Economic Development Centre (NEED Centre), the “Ariyaththai Traditional Vegetarian Restaurant” and the “Made in Mullaitivu” sales outlet were officially inaugurated in the Murukandy area in the Mullaiyivu District.

The Governor of the Northern Province, Hon. N. Vethanayagan, ceremonially opened the two establishments in the presence of distinguished guests, community leaders, and local residents.
Located within the premises of the All Ceylon Hindu Congress Vanni Office, the Ariyaththai Traditional Vegetarian Restaurant will serve quality fresh traditional Tamil vegetarian cuisine to the public and to pilgrims who travel through this important spiritual location. Alongside the restaurant, the “Made in Mullaitivu” outlet will promote and sell products made by local entrepreneurs and small-scale producers.

Through these initiatives, CTC aims to strengthen local livelihoods by creating economic opportunities for female-headed households and economically vulnerable families in the region. The Made in Mullaitivu outlet is the second sales centre established under CTC’s initiative to support and promote local producers.

The event took place under the chairmanship of Mullaitivu District Secretary Mr. A. Umamaheswaran, while Governor Hon. N. Vethanayagan attended as the Chief Guest. Several distinguished guests attended the ceremony, including Hon. Dr. Sai Murali, Deputy Consul General of India in Jaffna; Mrs. Abirami Kailasapillai, President of the All Ceylon Hindu Congress; Mr. Danton Thurairajah, Executive Director of the Canadian Tamil Congress; Mr. Thushyanthan Rajalakshmi Thurairatnam, Coordinator of Humanitarian Projects at CTC; Mr. Nishanthan, Divisional Secretary of Oddusuddan; and Mr. Vijayakumar, Divisional Secretary of Puthukudiyiruppu. Representatives of the All Ceylon Hindu Congress, including Vice President Mr. Thanabala, Deputy Vice President Dr. Aaru Thirumurugan, Secretary Mr. Kandhasamy, and Treasurer Mr. Kuselakumar, also participated in the ceremony. Members and supporters of the Canadian Tamil Congress, district entrepreneurs, community representatives, and members of the public joined the event and marked the occasion.

Delivering the welcome address, Mr. Thushyanthan Rajalakshmi Thurairatnam acknowledged that the project became possible through the generous contributions of the Canadian Tamil diaspora community. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to the donors whose support helped bring the initiative to life. During his remarks, Mullaitivu District Secretary Mr. A. Umamaheswaran expressed confidence that the “Made in Mullaitivu” initiative could grow into a widely recognized brand, similar to the global reputation of “Made in Japan.” Mr. Piratheepan Sothilingam, Executive Member of the North East Economic Development Centre delivered the vote of thanks.

Through this initiative, CTC expects many female-headed households and local entrepreneurs to benefit from new economic opportunities. Made in Mullaitivu செயற்திட்டம் Made in japan போன்று பெரிய அளவில் வளர்ச்சிபெறும் என்று முல்லைத்தீவு மாவட்ட அரச அதிபர் திரு. அ. உமாமகேஸ்வரன் அவர்கள் தனது நம்பிக்கை தெரிவித்திருந்தார். வடக்கு, கிழக்கு பொருளாதார அபிவிருத்தி மையத்தின் பணிப்பாளர் பிரதீபன் சோதிலிங்கம் அவர்கள் இந்நிகழ்வில் நன்றியுரையினை வழங்கியிருந்தார்.

இந்த செயற்திட்டத்தின் மூலம் பல பெண் தலைமை தாங்குகின்ற குடும்பங்களும் உள்ளூர் உற்பத்தியாளர்கள் பலரும் பெருமளவில் பயன்பெறுவார்கள்.
