Canadian Tamil Congress (CTC) Announces Key Constitutional Amendments and New Leadership Team Following 2026 Annual General Meeting

TORONTO, ON – June 5, 2026 – The Canadian Tamil Congress (CTC) successfully concluded its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on May 30, 2026. The meeting brought members together to pass crucial structural amendments to the organization’s constitution and to formalize the appointment of its new governing Board of Directors.

Key Constitutional Amendments Passed

To foster greater accountability, institutional growth, and operational modernization, the general membership voted overwhelmingly in favour of two critical constitutional revisions:

1. Introduction of Board Term Limits: In a major shift toward progressive governance, the CTC has amended the previous rule allowing open-ended tenures. The constitution now enforces strict limits on the length of time a director can serve on the Board, ensuring healthy leadership renewal and diversity of thought.

2. Modernization of Staffing Protocols: To provide the organization with greater administrative agility, fixed staff positions specifically Executive Director, Public Relations Coordinator, and National Spokesperson have been removed from the rigid text of the constitution. This allows operational staffing models to evolve organically based on real-time organizational needs.

These updates arise directly from the findings and recommendations of the Internal Review Committee (IRC). Established by the Board, the IRC recently conducted a comprehensive review of the organization’s governance practices, membership engagement, transparency, and overall relevance within an evolving community context.

Announcement of the New Board of Directors

The AGM also marked the official appointment of the incoming leadership team, tasked with executing the CTC’s core advocacy, cultural preservation, and community empowerment initiatives.
The new Executive Committee and Board members include:

• President: Sritharan Thurairajah
• Vice President: Dushy Gnanapragasam
• Secretary: Sukeevan Kailayapathy
• Treasurer: Kuna Nagalingam
• Board of Director: Thambirajah Vasanthakumar

Two additional Board of Directors appointments remain pending. In accordance with standard operational procedures, the sitting Board will fulfill these vacancies in the near future and announce the final appointments to membership.

Organizational Transitions

As part of the shift toward a more modernized operational staffing model, the formal role of Executive Director is transitioning. Current Executive Director, Danton Thurairajah, will be stepping into a new role as Director, Special Projects, where he will continue his valued employment and dedicated service with the CTC.

டொரொண்டோ – ஜுன் 5, 2026 – கனடியத் தமிழர் பேரவையின் (CTC) வருடாந்தப் பொதுக்கூட்டம் 2026 மே 30 அன்று வெற்றிகரமாக நடைபெற்றது. இக்கூட்டத்தில் கனடியத் தமிழர் பேரவையின் அரசியலமைப்பில் சில முக்கிய கட்டமைப்புத் திருத்தங்கள் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டதுடன், புதிய நிர்வாகக் குழு உறுப்பினர்களும் முறைப்படி தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டனர்.

முக்கிய அரசியலமைப்புத் திருத்தங்கள்

அமைப்பின் பொறுப்புக்கூறல் மற்றும் நிர்வாகச் செயல்பாடுகளை நவீனப்படுத்தும் நோக்கில், இரண்டு முக்கிய அரசியலமைப்புத் திருத்தங்களுக்குப் பொது உறுப்பினர்கள் ஆதரவாக வாக்களித்தனர்.

1. இயக்குநர் சபை பதவிக்காலக் கட்டுப்பாடு: திறமையான தலைமைத்துவ மாற்றங்களை ஊக்குவிக்கும் வகையில், காலவரம்பற்ற பதவிக்கால முறை நீக்கப்பட்டு, புதிய திருத்தம் கொண்டுவரப்பட்டுள்ளது. இதன் மூலம், ஒருவர் இயக்குநர் சபையில் எவ்வளவு காலம் பணியாற்றலாம் என்பதற்கான தெளிவான கால வரம்பை புதிய அரசியலமைப்பு அமுல்படுத்துகிறது.

2. பணியாளர் நியமன நடைமுறைகளை நவீனப்படுத்துதல்: கனடியத் தமிழர் பேரவையின் நிர்வாகத்தை எளிதாகவும் வேகமாகவும் மாற்றுவதற்காக, நிர்வாக இயக்குநர், மக்கள் தொடர்பு ஒருங்கிணைப்பாளர் மற்றும் தேசிய செய்தித் தொடர்பாளர் ஆகிய நிரந்தரப் பதவிகள் அமைப்பின் சட்ட விதிகளிலிருந்து நீக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. இதன் மூலம், காலத்திற்கேற்ப நிறுவனத்தின் தேவைகளைப் பொறுத்து பணியாளர்களின் அமைப்பைத் தேவையானவாறு மாற்றிக்கொள்ள முடியும்.

கனடியத் தமிழர் பேரவையின் நோக்கங்களையும், சமூக மேம்பாட்டுத் திட்டங்களையும் முன்னெடுத்துச் செல்வதற்காகப் புதிய நிர்வாகக் குழுவும், இயக்குநர் சபையும் இக்கூட்டத்தில் முறைப்படி தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டனர். அதன் விபரம் வருமாறு:

இயக்குநர் சபைக்கான மேலும் இரண்டு நியமனங்கள் இன்னும் முடிவடையாமல் உள்ளன. நடைமுறைகளின்படி தற்போதைய இயக்குநர் சபை மிக விரைவில் இந்த இடங்களை நிரப்பி அது குறித்த இறுதி அறிவிப்பை உறுப்பினர்களுக்கு வழங்கும்.

அமைப்பின் மாற்றங்கள்

நவீனமயமாக்கப்பட்ட செயல்பாட்டுப் பணியாளர் மாதிரியை நோக்கிய மாற்றத்தின் ஒரு பகுதியாக, நிர்வாக இயக்குநர் என்ற முறையான பதவி மாற்றியமைக்கப்படுகிறது. தற்போதைய நிர்வாக இயக்குநர் டான்டன் துரைராஜா, சிறப்புத் திட்டங்களின் இயக்குநர் என்ற புதிய பொறுப்பை ஏற்கவுள்ளார். இதன் மூலம் அவர் CTC-உடன் தனது மதிப்புமிக்க பணியையும் அர்ப்பணிப்புள்ள சேவையையும் தொடர்ந்து வழங்குவார்.
