CANADIAN TAMIL CONGRESS’ NEW BOARD OF DIRECTORS IDENTIFIES FOUR PILLARS FOR ITS STRATEGIC MANDATE

TORONTO, ON — July 09, 2026

The newly appointed Board of Directors of the Canadian Tamil Congress (CTC) successfully concluded its inaugural meeting where it outlined its strategic vision and priorities for its mandate. Following the recent Annual General Meeting where the general membership overwhelmingly approved significant constitutional strengthening measures, the governing body will focus on four core pillars: Financial Transparency, Broader Mandate, Stronger Leadership, and Enhanced Advocacy.

The new board is committed to the following key priorities:

Financial Transparency: CTC has always had rigorous reporting and auditing mechanisms in place for its financial dealings as any community organization should. However, these practices have not always been visible to or clearly understood by the community at large. In an effort to bridge this gap, the new board commits to making CTC’s professionally audited annual financial report public so that anyone with interest can confirm the veracity of any claim – anonymous or otherwise – made by any party with vested interests, malicious intent, or genuine concern.

Broader Mandate: The previous board achieved considerable success in expanding CTC’s reach and inclusivity by welcoming a wider membership base, ensuring diverse voices from across the Canadian Tamil community are represented. The current board will continue to make active participation from increasingly broader segments of the community a priority. This will be achieved by aggressively enlisting individual memberships in CTC and by fostering collaborations with credible community organizations that represent various interests and aspirations of the community.

Stronger Leadership: The Advisory Board has historically played a vital role in guiding and aiding CTC’s board of directors in successfully fulfilling its mandate. Continuing this tradition, the current board of directors humbly acknowledges its limitations and will seek to enhance organizational guidance by identifying and appointing additional experienced members to the Advisory Board, bringing fresh perspectives and deep expertise to the table.

Focus on Advocacy: Advocacy was a core mandate of CTC when it was initially formed, and it remains a core mandate today. The new board will strive to energize CTC’s efforts to amplify the voices of Tamil Canadians, promote cultural and political engagement, and advocate for community interests at the municipal, provincial, federal, and international levels.

These priorities will guide the Canadian Tamil Congress in fostering a more cohesive, engaged, and empowered Tamil-Canadian community. The board is dedicated to building an organization that effectively addresses the evolving cultural, social, and political needs of the Canadian Tamil Community. With the recent constitutional amendment to remove the role of Executive Director (ED) from the governance structure, the Board of Directors will assume a much more active role in the planning, oversight, and execution of CTC’s initiatives. Directors will take direct responsibility for key portfolios and strategic priorities, ensuring greater accountability and stronger governance. To support the effective delivery of programmes and events, the Board will establish dedicated subcommittees, each focused on specific initiatives and their execution. These subcommittees will work closely with Board members and volunteers to ensure every project is well planned, efficiently managed, and successfully delivered in alignment with CTC’s mission and objectives.
