At this year’s gala, the Canadian Tamil Congress proudly nominated Periathamby Ganesh Casinathen for an Outstanding Asian Canadian Award, which he received in recognition of his longstanding commitment to community service.

The Canadian Multicultural Council – Asians in Ontario represents nearly 20 Asian community organizations across Ontario and works to promote multiculturalism, foster harmony, and recognize the many contributions Asian Canadians have made to Canada’s social, cultural, and economic fabric. As part of Canada’s Asian Heritage Month celebrations, CMC hosted its 21st Annual Gala on May 2, 2026.

At this year’s gala, the Canadian Tamil Congress proudly nominated Periathamby Ganesh Casinathen for an Outstanding Asian Canadian Award, which he received in recognition of his longstanding commitment to community service.

After rebuilding his life in Canada following the ethnic unrest in Sri Lanka in 1983, Mr. Casinathen dedicated himself to supporting refugees, newcomers, and families in need. Through volunteerism, settlement assistance, blood donation drives, humanitarian initiatives, and civic engagement, he has made a meaningful difference in countless lives.

For more than two decades, he has also served as a dedicated volunteer with the Canadian Tamil Congress, making a lasting impact within both the Tamil community and broader Canadian society. His recognition reflects a lifetime of resilience, compassion, and service to others.

The Canadian Tamil Congress is proud to be a member organization of the Canadian Multicultural Council – Asians in Ontario, and we are honoured to celebrate Mr. Casinathen’s well deserved recognition.
