International Women’s Day
The Canadian Tamil Congress (CTC) proudly celebrated its annual International Women’s Day event on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Marquee Studios in Toronto. This year’s theme, “Give to Gain,” guided an inspiring afternoon that brought together many women from the Tamil community for a meaningful High Tea gathering. The event began with a heartfelt activity where attendees shared stories about women who inspired them. These reflections created a warm and thoughtful atmosphere and highlighted the influence women have on families, communities, and future generations.
CTC President Kumar Ratnam delivered the opening address. In his remarks, he recognized the strength, leadership, and resilience of women and spoke about their role in building stronger communities and a more inclusive society. The event welcomed Special Guest Juanita Nathan, Member of Parliament for Pickering Brooklin, who shared encouraging words about leadership, representation, and the importance of uplifting women in all sectors of society. The Keynote Speaker, Dr. Georgette Zinaty, delivered an engaging and insightful address that encouraged women to lead with confidence, embrace opportunities, and support one another in their personal and professional journeys.
Each year, the Canadian Tamil Congress recognizes exceptional women through two special awards. The Canadian Tamil Congress Women in Leadership Award, which honours a woman who has demonstrated outstanding leadership, dedication, and meaningful impact within the community, was presented to Nirothini Pararajasingham. The Canadian Tamil Congress Young Women in Leadership Award, which celebrates an emerging leader who is shaping the future through passion, vision, and commitment, was presented to Sandra Sabaratnam.
A special interactive session invited every attendee to share one word that describes the quality that makes them feel empowered. At the end of the program, several lucky attendees received door prizes, bringing excitement and smiles to the gathering. The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Kumudhini Thavaraj on behalf of the organizing committee consisting of Christeen Seevaratnam and Raveena Rajasingham, who expressed appreciation to all speakers, guests, volunteers, medias and attendees who contributed to the success of the event. The Canadian Tamil Congress extends sincere gratitude to the event sponsors for their generous support and commitment to community initiatives.
International Women’s Day serves as a reminder of the achievements of women and the importance of creating opportunities for future generations. The Canadian Tamil Congress remains committed to supporting women’s leadership, encouraging empowerment, and celebrating the strength that women bring to our community.
