Canadian Tamil Congress Calls for Thorough Police Investigation Following Vandalism of Tamil Genocide Memorial

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Tamil Congress (CTC) has formally requested a thorough investigation by Peel Regional Police following the recent vandalism of the Tamil Genocide Memorial in Brampton.
CTC has raised this matter directly with authorities, expressing deep concern about the incident, which the organization believes constitutes a hate‑motivated act.

CTC has urged law enforcement to take all necessary steps to identify those responsible and ensure they are held accountable.

“The Tamil Genocide Memorial is a solemn place of remembrance for families who lost loved ones during decades systemic genocide faced by Tamil‑speaking people in Sri Lanka,” said Mr. Ratnam, President of the Canadian Tamil Congress. “People have the fundamental right to remember their loved ones and to do so without fear, intimidation, or hatred. Acts of vandalism against memorials undermine that right and cause real harm to affected communities” added Mr. Ratnam.

The organization also called for continued efforts to safeguard memorial spaces and to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
