Canadian Tamil Congress Expresses Deep Sorrow Following Tumbler Ridge Tragedy and Calls for Strengthened Community Safety
The Canadian Tamil Congress is profoundly saddened, deeply shocked, and filled with sorrow following the tragic violence in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, which has resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries, including the loss of lives connected to a school community. This devastating act has shaken not only the residents of Tumbler Ridge but communities across Canada.
We extend our sincere and heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured, those receiving medical care, and all who have been traumatized by this horrific event. We also acknowledge and thank the first responders, healthcare professionals, and emergency personnel for their swift and courageous response during this crisis.
CTC unequivocally condemns all forms of violence. Acts that endanger innocent lives particularly in schools and residential communities are completely unacceptable. Schools must remain safe spaces for learning, growth, and hope, and communities must be places where people feel protected and secure. This incident underscores the urgent importance of prioritizing public safety and working collectively across governments, institutions, and communities to prevent such tragedies and to strengthen systems that protect lives and well-being.
The Canadian Tamil Congress stands in solidarity with the people of Tumbler Ridge and reaffirms its commitment to peace, dignity, and the safety of all communities.
