Tamil Fest Anticipated to Draw Thousands Once Again for Its 9th Annual Street Festival in Toronto

Tamil Fest is poised to enliven the streets of Scarborough, Ontario as it returns for its 9th Annual Street Festival. The festival, hosted by the Canadian Tamil Congress, will transform Markham Road between McNicoll Avenue and Passmore Avenue into a vibrant celebration on August 26th and 27th. As Scarborough’s flagship event, and the largest festival of its kind outside of the Indian Subcontinent, Tamil Fest is expected to attract attendees in the thousands. Esteemed personalities, both local and international, will grace the festival with their presence. Notable figures include Olivia Chow, Mayor of Toronto, Patrick Brown, Mayor of Brampton, Kevin Ashe, Mayor of Pickering, Bonnie Crombie, Mayor of Mississauga, Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Official Opposition in Canada, and other distinguished luminaries.

Musical Extravaganzas:

The festival boasts three stages during the evening hours, hosting an array of performances. Local bands like Mega Tuners, Shinaaz, Super Sons, and Bazz Sound Group will share the stage with exceptional artists including Hariharasuthan, Latha Krishna, Jessica, Sinmaye, Vithusayini, Praba, Ashwin Bala, Ajeesh, Sabesh, Aishwarya, and renowned Tamil musicians from India Uk and Sri Lanka such as Vijay Prakash, Mathulaani, Kokulan and the illustrious folk artist Manimaran.

● Opening Ceremony: Join three level of governments representatives on August 26th at 12:30 PM for an inspiring kick-off to the festivities.
● Expanded Stages: Programmes will be held on three stages simultaneously, providing diverse entertainment while showcasing the vibrant Tamil art forms.
● Tamil Parade: Witness the visually stunning and informative Tamil cultural parade.
● Remembering History: Reflect on significant events like Black July and the immigration of Sri Lankans by boat to Canada, including Ocean Lady and Sun Sea. With this there will be an exhibit showcasing the 200 years long history of Up-Country Tamils in Sri Lanka
● Empowering Women in the war affected region in Sri Lanka: Don’t miss the “Made in Mullaiteevu” fashion show, an initiative empowering woman in business.
● There will be lined up fusion instrumental performances and some fantastic Tamil folk acts throughout the two days.
